Moray SNP News
“The scenes we’ve seen on our television screens of the Russian invasion of Ukraine – an independent, democratic, European nation – are deeply harrowing and my immediate thoughts are with the people of Ukraine.
“News reports suggest that these unprovoked and reprehensible attacks by Russia have already cost lives and my heart goes out to those living in fear of what is to come.
“We’ve seen footage of people desperately trying to leave Kyiv and other areas of Ukraine and it is vital that Scotland, the UK and the rest of Europe, stand ready to provide refuge to those who are fleeing in search of safety.
“The need for the toughest possible sanctions on Russia is essential and must happen at pace – the UK Government and the international community must stand firm and resolute against Putin’s aggression.
“I’m very mindful that Moray is home to many Ukrainian citizens and I know that this will be an incredibly difficult and worrying time for those who have family and friends back home. My office stands ready to help and support anyone in Moray who is affected or in need of support.
“It’s also important to add that Moray is also home to many Russian citizens and those individuals should not be vilified – our condemnation is for Putin’s regime and his actions, not those Russians living peacefully in Scotland.”
