SNP WELCOME 'SERIOUS CASH' FOR MORAY SCHOOLS

09/02/2017

Moray SNP Council Group has welcomed the injection of cash from the Scottish Government to  schools across Moray.

The substantial 1.3 million pounds funding boost for Moray schools has come from the SNP Scottish Government’s attainment fund, which is being targeted using data on free school meals to get investment in communities with the greatest need.

Welcoming the announcement the SNP Opposition Education Spokesperson on The Moray Council, Cllr Mike Shand, said:

“This is a serious cash injection for schools in areas where it is needed the most.

“The SNP at national and local level are determined to close the poverty-related attainment gap and here in Moray that comes in the shape of a targeted investment in schools of 1.3 million pounds.

“This money will make a real difference for pupils who need the greatest support and help to level the playing field for young people regardless of their background.

“I know that headteachers across Moray are already working with their staff to see how they can make the best use of this extra cash in the most relevant way for their area and I am confident that the results will be seen in the coming years with stronger attainment across the board.”
