SNP MSP & COUNCILLOR MEET SAVE KEITH LIBRARY CAMPAIGNERS
19/11/2024SNP MSP for Moray, Richard Lochhead, and Cllr Theresa Coull met with representatives from the Save Keith Library campaign group to show their support for efforts to save the library from closure.
During a visit to Keith Library Mr Lochhead and Cllr Coull met with Mary Philp and Amanda Buchan who have been working tirelessly over the last week on the community campaign against the closure of Keith Library. They also spoke with members of the Knit and Natter Club that meet in the library once a week.
Speaking after their meeting, SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said:
“During a busy constituency day in Keith I was glad to have the opportunity to visit Keith Library and to meet with some of the campaigners who are fighting Moray Council’s plans to close this important community facility.
“Mary and Amanda conveyed the real strength of feeling in the town over the proposed closure and they deserve huge credit for getting the Save Keith Library campaign up and running so quickly.
“I have already been clear that the proposals published by the Conservative run Council to close 7 of Moray’s 11 local libraries would be a devastating blow to our communities. I will do all I can as Moray’s MSP to support campaigners as they fight to save their libraries, just as I have done in the past.”
Councillor Theresa Coull added:
“Since Moray Council published plans to close Keith Library last week I have been inundated with emails and messages from local residents who are shocked and angry that we might lose our library.
“Folk in Keith have united to oppose the proposed closure and those involved in the Save Keith Library campaign are doing a fantastic job making sure the voice of our community is heard.
“As local councillor I’m committed to working with campaigners to save our local library, which is much-loved and well used by people of all ages.”
