RICHARD LOCHHEAD ATTENDS GP SERVICES PROTEST IN LOSSIEMOUTH

On Tuesday morning Moray’s MSP attended a protest organised by the Save our Surgeries action group outside the Moray Coast Medical Centre in Lossiemouth.

The community led protest, which drew a large crowd, was organised to highlight the strength of feeling amongst residents of the Burghead and Hopeman communities against the proposed closure of the branch surgeries in the two villages.

The final decision about these closures will be taken at a meeting of the Moray Integration Joint Board on the 26th June and in the meantime the communities intend to organise several similar events and hope that they will be able to persuade the powers that be that a better solution can be found.

Commenting Mr Lochhead said:

“The coastal communities of Burghead and Hopeman are sending a loud and clear message to the health authorities that the centralisation of local GP services must be avoided and other solutions explored.

“As local MSP, I am urging the local doctors and NHS authorities to sit down with the community and work out a solution that allows GP surgeries to continue in the coastal villages and for a plan to be developed that allows that to happen.”
