MSP ATTENDS BUS SERVICE INFORMATION EVENT

06/04/2017

Richard Lochhead MSP attended the Stagecoach information event in Elgin today after it was revealed that the bus company plans to withdraw a number of local services.

Speaking after the meeting, Moray’s MSP said:

“The proposals to cut lifeline bus services in Moray is causing enormous anxiety and I have been contacted by scores of constituents whose lives will be adversely affected should they go ahead.

“I have spoken to constituents from Findhorn and Kinloss who need these services to visit the Health Centre in Forres to give one example. I have also spoken to shift workers who rely on the bus to get home from Elgin in the evening and families in Duffus who use the bus to get around.

“These routes are run on a commercial basis by Stagecoach and according to the company are loss-making but solutions must be found to keep these services in place and no service should be withdrawn until other companies take over the routes.

“We also face a difficult situation because the Moray Council withdrew bus subsidies a few years ago, and although I have already contacted Stagecoach I will be contacting the Council to seek its support in protecting these vital services.”
