MORAY'S TORY MP'S VOTING RECORD ON BREXIT IS RECKLESS

10/04/2019

Richard Lochhead MSP has described Moray’s Conservative MP’s voting record on Brexit as “reckless and irresponsible”.

During the latest round of indicative votes in the House of Commons Douglas Ross voted against every single proposal to compromise, taking the country closer to a no deal Brexit scenario.

Mr Lochhead is now calling on Moray’s Tory MP to explain to local communities and businesses why he voted against their interests and is willing to jeopardise local jobs.

Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“Not only did Douglas Ross fail to vote against a no deal Brexit last week, but he has now voted against all of the options to compromise – taking us to the brink of leaving the EU without a deal.

“Our Conservative MP is lining up with far-right Brexiteers to vote against Moray’s interests and we’re now just days away from leaving the EU with no deal agreed.

“Both Remain and Leave voters I have spoken to in Moray are appalled by Mr Ross’s damaging voting record on Brexit. The UK Government’s chaotic handling of the issues has already cost local businesses in Moray a fortune and nearly three years on from the referendum there is still no clarity about the future holds.  We should be under no illusions – local jobs and our economy are at serious risk and Mr Ross’ voting record is simply reckless and irresponsible.

“Moray will be one of the worst areas hit if we leave the EU without a deal – particularly given the size of our food and drink sector and our export based industries.  Key industry experts including the NFUS and Food and Drink Scotland have urged MPs to do what they can to avoid a no deal scenario, describing it as potentially catastrophic.”
