MORAY PARLIAMENTARIANS LAUNCH CHRISTMAS CARD DESIGN COMPETITION

30/10/2015

PRIMARY AGED CHILDREN ENCOURAGED TO SUBMIT ENTRIES

Moray’s parliamentarians, Angus Robertson MP and Richard Lochhead MSP, have launched their Christmas Card Design Competition, which is open to all primary school aged children in Moray.

The winning design will be used for the Moray Parliamentary Office’s Christmas Cards.

The theme of this year’s competition is ‘Happiness’.

The competition has already attracted sponsorship from several Moray businesses. Each year the MP and MSP use their card to highlight the work of a charity working in Moray. Last year sponsorship raised £1,000 for the Moray Foodbank.

This year’s nominated charity is Moray Women’s Aid.

Moray Women’s Aid offers services to women, children and young people with experience of domestic abuse. They provide refuge and community accommodation and support women, children and young people with practical and emotional support throughout their time in refuge, for a period of follow-on from refuge and on an outreach basis.

Commenting Angus Robertson MP said:

“Over the years we have had a huge number of entries from children all over Moray and every year we have great designs to choose from.

“This year’s competition theme is ‘Happiness’ and we would love to see entries from as many primary aged children as possible by 20th November. The winner will see their card design printed and used as the 2015 Moray Parliamentary Office Christmas Card.”

Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“I am really looking forward to seeing the entries for our 2015 Christmas Card competition. In past years we have had many fantastic designs from some very talented young people in Moray and I know we can expect the same again!

“Each year we nominate a charity working in Moray, which we highlight in the card. It was great to be able to donate a thousand pounds last year to the Foodbank and I am sure we will be able to make a further substantial donation to charity this year with the very generous sponsorship from Moray businesses. This year’s highlighted charity is Moray Women’s Aid, who do a huge amount of work providing refuge and support for victims of Domestic Abuse.”

Service Manager at Moray Women’s Aid, Elle Johnston, said:

“We are delighted that Moray Women’s Aid is being highlighted in the Christmas Card. It’s great to get more awareness of the work that we do and money raised from it will go directly to supporting some of Moray’s most vulnerable families.”

Christmas Card Competition Entries should be sent to Moray Parliamentary Office, 9 Wards Road, Elgin, IV30 1NL and should arrive no later than Friday 20th November.

Anyone looking for information on sponsorship of the Christmas Card Competition should also contact the Parliamentary Office on 01343 551111.
