MORAY MSP WELCOMES CROWN ESTATE SCOTLAND CEO TO GLENLIVET

12/01/2023

Earlier this week Richard Lochhead MSP met with the new Chief Executive of Crown Estate Scotland, Ronan O’Hara, in Glenlivet to discuss the important role of the agency in Moray.

During the meeting they discussed vital issues including community wealth building, the journey to net-zero, and how the Crown Estate is helping to empower local communities including Portgordon.

They also spoke about the many opportunities associated with Crown Estate Scotland’s Glenlivet 2050 Vision and Mosstodloch 2040 Masterplan.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Lochhead said:

“I was pleased to be able to welcome Crown Estate Scotland’s new Chief Executive to Moray given that many of their key assets – from estates, to tenant farms, and harbours - are based here.

“We discussed how best can use is new remit to promote the Moray economy and the social fabric of the region, given it is only relatively recently it became a devolved agency under the control of the Scottish Parliament rather than the UK Government. The masterplan they are working on for the future of their estates should deliver green jobs and resilient and empowered local communities.

“Glenlivet for instance, where we met, is a jewel in the agency’s crown with four distilleries and several communities and a very strong international brand that also boasts a tremendous natural environment that supports outdoors tourism. We need to harness all these attributes to deliver better infrastructure and economic activity for the region. Clean energy generated on land and in our seas must be another priority that must benefit local people.

“We discussed this and many of the issues affecting communities at the current time.”
