MORAY MSP VISITS RURAL CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR DIGITAL HEALTH AND CARE INNOVATION

Richard Lochhead has visited the Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre, based at UHI Moray, to hear about the programme’s work in Moray.

The Digital Health & Care Innovation Centre (DHI) has been awarded £5m from UK Government as part of the investment delivered through the Moray Growth Deal to support the remobilisation of health and care services in Moray, by investing in research and innovation activities aligned to the digital health and care agenda.

Mr Lochhead met with Marie Simpson, Programme Manager, and Karim Mahmoud, Commercial Innovation Lead, to see the innovative work being taken forward by the centre in the health and social care sector.

Commenting after the visit, Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“I was delighted to be invited along to meet with Marie and Karim to hear first-hand about the excellent work being undertaken by the DHI and partners to innovate health and care services in Moray and across Scotland.

“Moray is the perfect location to formulate and trial some of these new technologies and cutting edge healthcare innovations, particularly given the challenges we face delivering healthcare in a largely rural area.

“As the first project from the Moray Growth Deal to get up and running, the Rural Centre of Excellence for digital health and care innovation (RCE) is an exciting development that will boost Moray’s profile as a centre of digital healthcare and innovation with some of Scotland’s leading institutions coming together to make it happen.

“I was particularly interested in the five Living Lab themes focusing on supported self-management, long-term conditions co-management, care in place, smart housing/ communities and mental wellbeing. These Living Labs will enable interviews and workshops with health practitioners and the general public to facilitate collaborate and co-design services for these priority areas, and I would encourage all those interested to sign up and take part.”
