MORAY MSP RICHARD LOCHHEAD COMMENTS ON ENERGY PRICE CAP CHANGES
23/02/2024Commenting on the announcement by Ofgem of a reduced energy price cap from April 1st, Moray’s SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said:
“Of course any reduction to energy bills is welcome, however, this change will come as too little too late for many households in Moray who will still be paying significantly more than the pre-crisis rate and will also be hit by standing charges going up even further.
“In an energy-rich country, it’s a disgrace that households in Scotland have to pay such extortionate energy bills thanks to decades of failed management of our energy resources by successive governments at Westminster.
“Levels of fuel poverty is Moray are higher than the national average, despite many households seeing energy produced and transmitted right on their doorstep, showing just how broken the system really is.
“Most families in Moray will have received no help with high energy bills from the UK Government this winter, whilst people continue to struggle with soaring rents, mortgages and food costs.”
