MORAY MSP RESPONDS TO JULY PRICE CAP ANNOUNCEMENT

25/05/2023

Richard Lochhead MSP has responded to Ofgem’s announcement that the energy price cap will fall to £2,074 per year for dual fuel for an average household from 1 July 2023.

Commenting, SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said:

“While the Ofgem energy price cap has today been reduced slightly to £2,074 a year for the typical household from July, energy prices will still be around double what they were in 2021 and they are expected to rise again in January 2024. In addition, the UK government has withdrawn the £400 energy bill rebate for households, and household incomes are falling behind the UK's soaring inflation.

"Households in Moray are continuing to pay the price for Westminster failure and in an energy-rich country like Scotland, it's absurd the UK Government is forcing families to pay through the nose for a resource we have in abundance, while it refuses to reinvest the huge profits it is raking in from Scotland's north sea oil and gas.

Moray households will still be anxious about their energy bills following today’s announcement and we need more action from the UK Government to protect households and businesses to stop people facing many more months, and another winter, of energy bills remaining stubbornly high.”
