MORAY MSP RESPONDES TO DAMNING OMBUDSMAN REPORT ON WASPI WOMEN

RICHARD LOCHHEAD MSP: UK GOVERNMENT MUST COMPENSATE MORAY’S WASPI WOMEN 

Moray’s SNP MSP has responded to a damning report published by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman on the DWP’s failures to adequately inform WASPI women that their state pension age had changed.

Responding to the report recommending that women should be awarded compensation by the UK Government, Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said:

“The ombudsman’s damning report has confirmed what we’ve known for years – WASPI women were failed by the UK Government and were not adequately informed of changes to their state pension age, and they must be compensated.

“Over the years I’ve heard some devastating accounts of the real-life experiences of women affected and have supported Moray’s WASPI women in their calls for compensation given the very serious impact the changes have had on their finances.

“It is now essential that the UK Government ensures the Department for Work and Pensions compensates WASPI women in Moray and across the country who have been left worse off as a result of its failures.

“WASPI women have already waited too long for justice and the Tory Prime Minister must act now to right this wrong.”
