LOCHHEAD WELCOMES LINK ASSESSMENT ON CASH ACCESS IN LOSSIEMOUTH
13/02/2025Richard Lochhead MSP has welcomed plans for improvements to be made to access to cash in Lossiemouth.
LINK, who are the coordination body that carries out assessments when there is a change to the level of cash access in a community and recommends new services when required, have completed a cash access assessment in Lossiemouth.
The organisation have found that there is a gap in cash access services in the Lossiemouth community and think the local area needs access to a cash deposit and withdrawal service.
Mr Lochhead has been pushing for better banking services in Lossiemouth following Bank of Scotland’s decision to remove their mobile branch service in late 2023 and met with LINK in March 2024 to discuss the situation in Lossiemouth.
Commenting on the announcement, Moray’s MSP said:
“I’m really pleased that LINK have recognised the gap in access to cash in Lossiemouth and the surrounding area and have recommended improved access via a cash deposit and withdrawal service.
“I have been in contact with LINK over the last year after Bank of Scotland announced they were withdrawing the mobile branch service and I know that Lossiemouth Community Council, the Development Trust and the Business Association have all played a key role in securing this assessment which has returned a positive outcome.
“LINK’s announcement is good news and I will be meeting with LINK to discuss their findings and the next steps that will follow. It is vital that people and businesses are be able to access cash and banking services in their local community and I hope we will see better access following this assessment in the coming months.”
