LOCHHEAD TO MEET WITH NHS GRAMPIAN OVER MORAY DENTAL SERVICES
12/05/2022Richard Lochhead MSP is set to meet with the Chief Executive of NHS Grampian to discuss concerns about dental services in Moray.
Mr Lochhead has been contacted by a number of constituents who have been unable to register at dentist practices throughout Moray and concerningly, in the past few day, by constituents who have been deregistered from Bishopmill Dental Centre due to staff shortages.
Moray’s SNP MSP is seeking assurances from NHS Grampian that steps are being taken to ensure patients in Moray can access an NHS dentist locally, as well as the work being undertaken to support practices affected.
Commenting, Richard Lochhead MSP said:
“In recent weeks I’ve been contacted by a number of constituents who have been unable to register with NHS dentists in Moray. Some have told me that they have been offered alternative access in Highland or Aberdeenshire which is unacceptable. In the past few days, the situation appears to have escalated with patients of Bishopmill Dental Centre being deregistered due to staffing issues.
“Many will remember the challenging situation we faced in Moray over ten years ago, when accessing a NHS dentist was incredibly difficult. As MSP for Moray I worked hard alongside NHS Grampian to ensure improved access for all residents of Moray to dental services and it is seriously concerning that once again this is a problem locally.
“I will be seeking reassurance form the Chief Executive that measures are being put in place to tackle this growing issue and that residents of Moray are not at a disadvantage from others living in Grampian when it comes to accessing NHS dental care.”
