LOCHHEAD RAISES ABERLOUR ROAD WORK CONCERNS WITH BEAR SCOTLAND
14/05/2015Moray MSP, Richard Lochhead, has today [Thursday 14 May] written to the Managing Director of Bear Scotland, Brian Gordon, regarding the timing of major road works due to start on the A95 in Aberlour next week and the concerns of the local community on the impact over the tourist season.
In his letter, Mr Lochhead has highlighted the worries of local business owners over the impact these improvement works will have on trade during the crucial summer months, as well as asking to what extent consideration was given to the time of year these works were to be carried out and avoiding tourist peaks. He has also sought assurances that the community’s concerns will be taken into consideration given how important these small businesses are to Aberlour and the wider Speyside economy.
Richard Lochhead said:
“I sympathise with the concerns of residents and local business owners in Aberlour over the timing of these works and have written to the Managing Director at Bear Scotland highlighting their concerns.
“Successful summer trading and the tourist period is essential to Aberlour and the Speyside region, and I’m keen to understand to what extent this was considered by Bear during the planning stages of the works.
“Clearly these major road improvements are important and necessary, however, it’s key that the views of the community are given due consideration and I’ve sought the assurances of the Managing Director that this will be the case.”
