LOCHHEAD PROVIDED UPDATE ON GAMECHAGING TENNIS FACILITIES AT MORAY SPORTS CENTRE
22/04/2024Moray MSP Richard Lochhead has hailed the new world-class indoor tennis facility while visiting earlier this week.
Mr Lochhead was shown the progress being made with the tennis facility by Iain Stokes, CEO of Moray Sports Centre, with the project entering the final stage before opening in the coming months.
The facility, which will include four tennis courts and a toilet block, is being built near Moray Sports Centre after receiving funding from Tennis Scotland, sportScotland and the Lawn Tennis Association’s Transforming Scottish Indoor Tennis fund and the Moray Sports Foundation.
Moray Sports Centre, which opened in July 2019, is run by the charity Moray Sports Foundation and aims to improve and deliver sporting facilities and activities geared to help all live well and healthy.
Commenting, Richard Lochhead MSP said:
“The new indoor tennis facility will truly be a gamechanger for the sport in Moray and it was great to meet with Iain at the Sports Centre to see the progress with the building’s construction.
“Since opening, I know the Sports Centre has been incredibly popular with people across Moray and it was good to find out how many different groups make use of the existing facilities.
“I know many across Moray will be eagerly awaiting the opening of these tennis courts which will provide a real opportunity for keen tennis players to improve their game and also encourage the next generation of tennis players into the sport.
“Moray Sports Centre continues to enhance sporting provision locally and really puts Moray on the map in terms of sporting excellence with their first class facilities.”
Iain Stokes, CEO of Moray Sports Centre, added:
“It was great to welcome Richard Lochhead MSP to the Moray Sports Centre and show him the progress we have made with the construction of the Indoor Tennis Centre.
“This new facility supports our vision for Moray to become the heathiest and most active place in Scotland and compliments the state-of-the-art Sports and Fitness provision already available to the community at the Centre.
“Tennis will now be a year-round Sport in Moray with opportunities for beginners and improvers to join our Coaching Programme as well as the more experienced player, whatever the weather.”
