LOCHHEAD MEETS NEW MORAY TALENT ATTRACTION MANAGER
19/06/2019Richard Lochhead MSP this week met with Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s new Senior Development Manager for Talent Attraction, Rona Campbell.
Mr Lochhead joined Rona Campbell and HIE’s Moray Area Manager, Donna Chisholm, at their Forres office to discuss the recruitment challenges locally and how agencies can work together to ensure key workers are attracted to Moray.
Moray’s MSP has long been involved in this issue having convened round table discussions on attracting workers to the area, as well as previously calling for a dedicated post to be created to work on talent attraction initiatives.
Speaking after the meeting Richard Lochhead MSP said:
“I’m delighted that HIE has appointed a Senior Development Manager to focus on talent attraction in Moray and that we now have this vital new post, the first of its kind, up and running in Moray.
“I know from speaking to local businesses and public sector organisations that it can be challenging sometimes to attract key skilled workers, such as teachers and doctors to live and work in more northern areas like parts of the country.
“That’s why I pushed hard for a few years for a post like this to be created given the well documented recruitment problems we’ve had in both the public and private sector recently.
“I was pleased to meet with Rona and hear about HIE’s determination to work with local firms and the public sector and I strongly encourage everyone affected by skills shortages to engage with HIE to make the most of this new resource.
“This is a major challenge for public services and businesses in Moray and it is essential that we take a team Moray approach to talent attraction and recruitment of key workers. As local MSP I will continue to play my part in bringing people together to ensure that Moray stands out from the crowd and we’re coming up with a unique offer for workers choosing where to pursue a career.”
