LOCHHEAD MEETS NEW LOOK TO DISCUSS ELGIN STORE CLOSURE
31/01/2022Richard Lochhead MSP has today met with New Look’s Director of Property, Rupert Good, to discuss the closure of the company’s Elgin store.
Mr Lochhead sought clarity on the reason for the closure and urged New Look to exhaust all options in an effort to secure new premises in Elgin as soon as possible.
Speaking after the meeting, Moray’s SNP MSP said:
“I was pleased to meet with New Look’s Property Director to discuss the closure of their Elgin store and what this will mean for their staff and the wider Moray economy.
“I know the store is popular locally and many of their loyal customers will be disappointed to it close this week, albeit this seems to be a decision that was taken by the landlord rather than by New Look.
“I’m told that New Look are supporting their local staff through this difficult period and that will continue over the coming days.
“Assurances were given to me that New Look do want to find alternative premises in Elgin and hope to be able to reopen again should they manage to secure somewhere suitable. I recognise that this could take some time – these things don’t happen overnight – but I do welcome their commitment to trying to ensure New Look has a future here in Moray.
“The company does recognise that customers in Moray have a considerable distance to travel to other New Look stores but hopefully we’ll see them open their doors again in Elgin in the near future.”
