LOCHHEAD MARKS HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY

Moray MSP, Richard Lochhead, marked Holocaust Memorial Day by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in the Scottish Parliament yesterday [Tuesday 27 January]. 

Speaking on the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Mr Lochhead highlighted the vital role education plays in warning against future atrocities. 

Mr Lochhead said:

“It was an honour to be able to mark Holocaust Memorial Day in the Scottish Parliament by signing the Book of Commitment.  The atrocities of the Nazi Regime and the Holocaust are humanity’s lowest point, and we have a duty to ensure that we never forget the horrific treatment of Jews and other minority groups.

“The world was changed forever after the liberation of the camps, and through education it is important we keep the memories of victims and survivors alive.  Only through education can we ensure that future generations are not condemned to repeat such atrocities.”
