SNP MP & MSP BRIEFED BY NHS GRAMPIAN ON DR GRAY’S MATERNITY SERVICES PROGRESS
27/08/2024Moray MSP Richard Lochhead and Moray East MP Seamus Logan jointly met with NHS Grampian representatives to get an update on work to restore consultant-led maternity services at Dr Gray’s.
Programme Director, Jane Gill, briefed the SNP MSP and MP on the progress that has been made to recruit the staff required to rebuild the service, with work well underway to reinstate elective c-sections in the first half of 2025.
Speaking after the meeting, Richard Lochhead MSP for Moray said:
“Having attended so many meetings on maternity services down the years, I have to say the situation feels so much more positive and the team working on the plans are clearly very determined to deliver on the promise to restore a consultant-led service at Dr Gray’s.
“Recruitment – which was a key factor in the removal of the consultant-led service – seems to be going well, with a dedicated campaign to attract medics to make their lives here in Moray. It is really heartening to hear that 75% of the staff required are now recruited, which will allow the project team to carefully re-build the service in a way that is sustainable and fit for the future.
“The importance of this service can’t be understated and although there is a lot of work still to do, I feel reassured by the progress that been made so far. The reintroduction of elective caesareans in 2025 will be the first big milestone on the way to full restoration and I know for women and families in Moray, increased access to services locally cannot come quick enough.”
Aberdeenshire North & Moray East MP Seamus Logan added:
“I was delighted to attend what was a very informative meeting with the team at Dr Gray’s on the exciting prospect of bringing maternity services back into the wider Moray area.
“I am heartened by the commitment and enthusiasm shown by all involved and look forward to seeing their hard work come to fruition. This has been a long time coming for the people of Moray and will ease a lot of the pressure on other medical facilities; as well as bringing much needed maternity services back into the local communities.
“I want to take this opportunity to commend everyone involved for their dedication and put on record that the team has my full support.”
