SNP COUNCILLORS WELCOME SUPPORTED HOUSING INVESTMENT IN LHANBRYDE

29/08/2016

SNP Councillors have welcomed the investment in new supported accommodation in Lhanbryde.

Councillors have considered a number of reports in recent months about the lack of suitability of the Maybank facility in Forres and on the need for more supported accommodation in Moray to avoid having to send people with particular support needs further afield.

SNP councillors have supported the view that facilities need to be as local as possible and that we need to move away from facilities like Maybank, which are unsuitable for the care needs and do not provide the best environment for either clients or the staff supporting them.

Welcoming the start of construction of the new accommodation in Lhanbryde SNP Opposition Spokesperson on Health & Social Care, Cllr Patsy Gowans, said:

“The SNP has supported this investment, which will not only provide high quality local accommodation but will provide better and more affordable support in a peaceful environment.

“Investment like this not only benefits the clients and the support staff but it also means more people living and working in the community, who will spend money in local shops and use local facilities like the nearby Community Centre.”

Fochabers Lhanbryde SNP Councillor Margo Howe said:

“It is great to get new accommodation in our community supporting people who need it most and at the same time providing local employment in the care sector in the Lhanbryde area.

“The design looks great and it was good to be at the turf cutting ceremony of this important community project.”
