RICHARD LOCHHEAD COMMENTS ON UK CHANCELLOR’S BUDGET U-TURN

Commenting on UK Government’s mini-budget u-turn as outlined by the new Chancellor earlier today, Richard Lochhead MSP said: 

“The Chancellor not only announced another round of screeching budget u-turns, he also confirmed plans to usher in a new era of Tory austerity, which will be devastating for public services that are already under a huge amount of pressure.

“Households and businesses in Moray need real and targeted support to deal with the cost of living crisis, but the limited support that was in place is instead being scaled back and we’re now bracing ourselves for deep public spending cuts.

“The disastrous mini-budget trashed the economy and put people’s incomes, homes, and pensions at risk, and incredibly Moray’s Tory MP was an enthusiastic supporter of the Prime Minister’s plans. Like Liz Truss’s budget, Douglas Ross’s credibility is now in tatters.

“Moray households are facing very difficult times due to Tory mismanagement and incompetence – and we all thought it couldn’t get any worse than Boris Johnson.

“The Prime Minister has run out of road and it is now a question of when, and not if, she’ll be removed from office.”
