10/04/2019

NEW DEDICATED CITIZENS ADVICE SERVICE TO ATTEND

Richard Lochhead MSP is set to host two public meetings in Moray for EU nationals who may be concerned about their future due to ongoing Brexit uncertainty.

Mr Lochhead is keen to offer guidance, support and reassurance to the many EU nationals who have made their home in Moray.

Hamish Fraser, Head of the EU Nationals Support Project at Citizens Advice Scotland will join Moray’s MSP at both meetings.  The EU Nationals Support Project is being funded by the Scottish Government.

Details of the meetings are:

•             Friday 15th March at 2.30pm at the Universal Hall, The Park, Findhorn

•             Friday 15th March at 7pm in the St Giles Church, High Street, Elgin

MSP for Moray Richard Lochhead said:

“Over the last two years I have been approached by many EU nationals living in Moray who are seriously concerned about Brexit and their continued right to live, work and love in Scotland.

“At the start of the year I sent a survey to EU nationals living in Moray and the overwhelming response was that people feel they simply haven’t had enough information from the UK Government.  Many of the people who got back in touch with me weren’t even aware of the settled status scheme and that they would need to apply to continue to live and work here.

“There are over 1500 EU nationals living in Moray who are a valued part of our community and contribute so much to our local area.  As local MSP I want to do all I can to reassure and support my constituents, which is why I felt it important to hold these meetings.

“I’ve written to all EU nationals in my constituency inviting them to these public meetings, where I will be reiterating my support for Moray’s EU nationals.  I’m pleased that I’ll be joined by the Head of the new EU Nationals Support Project and I hope that together we’ll able to provide folks with some much needed guidance and advice.”
