MSP RESPONDS TO NHS GRAMPIAN’S COMMENTS ON ‘POSITIVES’ OF MATERNITY DOWNGRADE

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead has responded to documents acquired by Keep MUM campaigners which show NHS Grampian describe the ‘positives’ of the downgrading of maternity services at Dr Gray’s.

Commenting Mr Lochhead said:

“The downgrading of the maternity unit at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin has caused many pregnant women and their families huge amounts of stress and anxiety over the last three and a half years.

“It’s insensitive of NHS Grampian to refer to any so called positives of the downgrade and to suggest that the reductions in service would be a learning opportunity for pregnant women in Moray.

“I’ve said before that NHS Grampian face an uphill battle to win the confidence of the public for its efforts to restore a consultant led service in Moray. There’s no doubt that these comments from NHS Grampian will only lead to further questioning of its commitment. 

“These comments also demonstrate a real lack of understanding of the emotional impact these changes have had on women and families in Moray.”
