MSP BACKS KINLOSS ABBEY TRUST’S RENOVATION PROJECT
03/03/2020Richard Lochhead MSP is supporting the Kinloss Abbey Trust as they work to restore Abbot’s House at the Abbey.
The Trust’s plans will secure the safety of Abbot’s House in order for it to be a place where people will be able to seek peaceful reflection. Mr Lochhead is committed to supporting the work of the Trust as they move forward with the project.
After visiting the Abbot’s House at Kinloss Abbey today, Moray’s MSP said:
“The Kinloss Abbey Trust have already done a marvellous job raising cash to carry out some repairs to the Bishop’s House and I have pledged my support to help the trustees secure support for future phases. After all, the Bishop’s House and Kinloss Abbey have played such a major role in Moray and Scotland’s history.
“The abbey’s most famous abbot Robert Reid who extended the Bishop’s House was a pivotal figure in our history and one of the nation’s foremost religious and political leaders in the fifteenth century. The local community deserve the opportunity to learn more about his fascinating life and our local heritage. Indeed, it would be superb if we could secure investment to make the repairs that would allow Kinloss to once again become a major centre of learning.
“Sometimes we take for granted the amazing buildings and places on our own doorstep that have been a feature of local life for centuries. It’s also important to do more to celebrate and learn the story that lies behind them especially given that we have some of the most important sites in Scotland that need cared for a preserved.”
