MORAY MSP WELCOMES SNP GOVERNMENT’S WINTER FUEL PAYMENT FOR SCOTLAND’S PENSIONERS

Moray’s SNP MSP Richard Lochhead has hailed the decision of the Scottish Government to introduce a universal payment for Scotland’s pensioners to mitigate the UK Government’s cut to the winter fuel payment. 

Next winter pensioners in Moray and Scotland will benefit from payments of £100, £200 or £300 depending on their circumstances.

Commenting Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“The SNP Scottish Government has taken action to right a wrong by the UK Labour Government, putting funds in place to support Scotland’s pensioners at a time of soaring energy bills and the shameful cut to winter fuel payment by the UK Chancellor.

“In the run up to the General Election Labour promised to bring down energy bills but instead his party picked the pocket of Moray’s pensioners, cutting their winter fuel payment.

“Moray pensioners who have been left out in the cold by Labour will I hope welcome the Scottish Government’s plans to introduce a new payment for next winter for all pensioners in Scotland.”
