MORAY MSP VISITS MORAY CHILDREN’S HEARING CENTRE

03/10/2023

Richard Lochhead last week visited Moray Children’s Hearing Centre to chat with representatives from both Children’s Hearings Scotland and the Scottish Children’s Reporter’s Association.

The centre, which is home to both the Scottish Children’s Reporter service and hosts children’s hearings in Moray, recently underwent a major refurbishment with the official reopening taking place on the 16 September. The centre in Phoenix House now has a new entrance and reception area, in addition to a more open and spacious hearing suite offering children a warm welcome and calming surroundings.

Mr Lochhead heard about the work conducted by the CHS and SCRA who make vital decisions about vulnerable children in need of care or young people who have offended, as well as the ongoing challenges the organisations face.

Commenting, Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“I was delighted to be able to meet with George, Sharon and reporters who work from the Elgin base and was pleased to hear about the important work they do ensuring vulnerable children and young people in Moray are safe, protected and offered positive futures.

“The recent works to the building ensure that the centre is open and modern, with the jungle theme in the hearing room hopefully putting children and their families attending hearings at ease.

“The Scottish Children’s Reporter’s Association and Children’s Hearings Scotland work closely to protect and support Scotland’s children, and the local team here in Moray work hard to support our young people and offer them positive outcomes.

“Children’s Hearings Scotland rely on dedicated volunteers to sit on their panels and I would encourage anyone who may be interested in volunteering to check out the link below for more information.”

On the visit, Sharon McArthur and George Hogg added:

“We were privileged to host our local MSP Richard, give him a tour of our newly refurbished hearing centre as well as discuss local issues for our children and young people and the critical work of our volunteers in supporting children and their families across Moray.”
