MORAY MSP TO VISIT FLOOD ALLEVIATION SCHEME
06/03/2015Richard Lochhead MSP will tomorrow (Friday 6 March) will visit the Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme as part of the UK Contractor’s Group (UKCG) Open Door Weekend.
Mr Lochhead will be given a tour of the Elgin scheme, which is the largest flood alleviation scheme in Scotland and the largest civil engineering project in Moray, by Construction Manager Allan Russell.
Members of the Morrison team, who are working with the Moray Council to deliver the scheme which received substantial Scottish Government funding, will also be on hand to discuss the employment and career opportunities the construction industry has to offer locally.
Speaking ahead of his visit, Mr Lochhead said:
“I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to visit the Elgin Flood Alleviation Scheme, and getting a better understanding of the work involved in the construction of a project of this scale.
“Just last year, although only partially completed, the scheme protected a significant number of properties from flooding and once it’s complete, even more homes and businesses will be better protected.
“This is great example of a successful working partnership between the public and private sector, underpinned by Scottish Government funding and I’m excited to hear about how the scheme is progressing.”
