MORAY MSP JOINS TOMINTOUL BOWLING CLUB FOR OPENING OF SEASON
27/04/2023Tomintoul & Glenlivet Bowling Club opened its doors for the 2023 season on Saturday 22 April, with local MSP and the club’s Honorary President Richard Lochhead performing the opening ceremony.
Around 40 bowlers from Dufftown, Aberlour, Grantown and Nethy Bridge turned out for the start of the season and all enjoyed the opportunity to play on the club’s new carpet surface.
Mr Lochhead wished the bowlers and the club best wishes for the season ahead and thanked the volunteers for the work they do behind the scenes to make the club a success.
Speaking after the club opening Richard Lochhead MSP said:
“I’m grateful to Tomintoul & Glenlivet Bowling Club for inviting me to open their new season. It is a privilege to be the club’s Honorary President and I always enjoy visiting what must be one of the most spectacular settings for any bowling club in the country.
“It was great to see the improvements made to the club, which was looking brilliant with its new lawn and clubhouse windows, and I had a lovely time catching up with so many club members and folk from the local community.
“I even managed to emerge victorious in my match, but I admit that was mainly thanks to my partner Charlie.
“Bowling clubs play an important part in many of our local communities and give people the opportunity to stay active and to socialise, and I appreciate the efforts of the volunteers who work hard behind the scenes to keep them running.
“I wish everyone involved in the sport across Moray all the very best for the coming season.”
Club Chairman Edward Stuart, who organised the event added:
“I was extremely happy with how the day went and was also thankful that the weather was favourable.
“We have a great facility here in Tomintoul and that is evident when people are willing to travel some distance to play here. We have good support locally and probably have the highest number of members per head of population anywhere in the country, which is very rewarding for the efforts of all who are involved.
“It is always great to have our Honorary President to join us for our open day and get the season off to a flying start.”
