LOCHHEAD WELCOMES ACTION TO CRACKDOWN ON LITTERING FROM VEHICLES

10/04/2019

Richard Lochhead MSP has welcomed the announcement that the Scottish Government is set to introduce tougher action on littering from vehicles as part of the Circular Economy Bill.

The new legislation being brought forward will make it an offence to litter from vehicles.

Mr Lochhead has long called for tougher penalties for motorists who throw litter from their vehicles.

Commenting Moray’s SNP MSP said:

“I’m delighted that the Scottish Government is committed to bringing forward new legislation to make it an offence to throw litter from vehicles.

“This is something I’ve long supported given the cost of roadside litter to the taxpayer and the detrimental impact it has on our local environment.

“Moray is a beautiful area but roadside litter is a real problem that is both unnecessary and unsightly.  We’re lucky to have some dedicated volunteers locally who organise litter picks, collecting the rubbish that others leave behind, but they shouldn’t have to give up their time to clean up this mess.

“I look forward to seeing how this legislation progresses – I’m certain this tough approach will help reduce the blight of litter in our local communities.”
