LOCHHEAD SET TO WELCOME WOMEN’S HEALTH MINISTER TO MORAY FOR MATERNITY TALKS

Richard Lochhead MSP will welcome the Scottish Government’s Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health, Jenni Minto MSP, to Moray tomorrow [Tuesday 22nd August] for talks on the restoration of maternity services at Dr Gray’s Hospital. 

Mr Lochhead will join the Minister as she visits Dr Gray’s Hospital and meets with representatives from campaign group Keep MUM.

Richard Lochhead has also arranged for the Minister to visit Moray Leisure Centre to hear about their plans for the future.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Moray’s SNP MSP said:

“I’m pleased the Women’s Health Minister is set to visit Moray following my request for her to meet Keep MUM campaigners to discuss the restoration of consultant-led maternity services in Moray. It’s hugely important the Minister hears directly from Keep MUM on their concerns over the pace of plans to reinstate services.

“The Scottish Government has given a clear commitment to restore Moray’s consultant-led service and has provided additional funding for NHS Grampian to invest in Dr Gray’s Hospital.

“We now need to start seeing services being stepped up at Dr Gray’s – too many women continue to have to travel to Aberdeen to deliver their babies – and NHS Grampian must show a greater sense of urgency.  

“I hope the Minister will deliver a strong and clear message that will reassure the community that the consultant-led service will be restored and the majority of women in Moray will once again be able to deliver their babies in Elgin.”
