LOCHHEAD SEEKS UPDATE FROM NHS GRAMPIAN ON DR GRAY’S MATERNITY SERVICES
09/01/2020Richard Lochhead MSP has written to NHS Grampian’s Chief Executive Amanda Croft seeking an update on the plan to restore consultant led women’s and children’s services at Dr Gray’s.
Mr Lochhead has asked for details of the health board’s plans to plug the gap in anaesthetic provision in Elgin that is being cited as the latest reason for the delay , as well as what steps NHS Grampian has taken to recruit the additional obstetrics support need to restore the service.
Moray’s SNP MSP said:
“The months are flying by and the date for the implementation of Phase 2 will have come and gone before we know it.
“It’s therefore important for the local community to know what steps are being taken to plug the gap in the anaesthetic provision at Dr Gray’s which we were informed is the latest stumbling block to getting the full maternity service back up and running again.
“I am also keen to know what steps have been taken to recruit additional obstetrics support and the other relevant posts to enable the service to be restored.
“We continue to have a first class team of midwives and doctors delivering a maternity service at Dr Gray’s many of who I was pleased to meet during my recent New Year’s Day visit but too many constituents are still being expected to travel to Aberdeen to give birth.
“It is important that the public can retain confidence in the plan to restore the obstetrics and paediatrics service at Dr Gray’s but it is regrettable that we have gone from a shortage of trainee doctors being the key issue to there now being several obstacles. That is a real cause for concern but with determination and leadership these can be overcome.”
