LOCHHEAD PRESENTS MORAY WOMEN’S AID WITH CHAIRTY CHRISTMAS CARD CHEQUE

24/01/2024

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead presented local charity Moray Women’s Aid Plus with a cheque for £1,900 today.

Mr Lochhead donated the funds thanks to the sponsorship of his charity Christmas card competition by local businesses. He was joined by representatives of some of the businesses who sponsored the competition for the handover at Moray Women’s Aid in Elgin.

Hannah Clapperton of Logie Primary School was named as the winner of the competition last month which invited pupils from across primary schools in Moray to design a ‘Local Community’ themed card for Christmas.

Commenting, SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said:

"I was very grateful to Robertson Group, Springfield Group, Walker’s Shortbread Ltd, Maclean’s Highland Bakery, The Forsyths Group and McDonald’s in the Community Foundation for generously sponsoring my charity Christmas card.

"Moray Women’s Aid are a very worthy local charity, providing important support services and safe accommodation to women and children experiencing domestic abuse throughout Moray, and I know the money will be well used to ensure they continue supporting women and children across Moray.”

Elle Johnston, Services Manager at Moray Women’s Aid, added:

“Moray Women’s Aid are very pleased to accept this donation and would like to thank Richard and all the children and local businesses involved in the raising of funds through the Christmas card competition. It is well appreciated from us all and the monies will be spent directly towards the support needed by our families”

Springfield Group HR Manager, Diane Kemp attended the cheque presentation and said:

“As a responsible housebuilder, Springfield take pride in supporting groups, charities, and communities in areas that we are building. Moray’s Women’s Aid does fantastic work and, as a volunteer on the Moray Women’s Aid Board, it’s a cause that I strongly advocate.

“The Christmas card competition was a great initiative to bring the community together, engage with local children and raise money for an invaluable charity in Moray. Springfield is delighted to have helped make this a reality.”
