LOCHHEAD CONGRATULATES ELAINE ROBERTSON ON NFU AWARD

11/02/2015

Moray MSP, Richard Lochhead has offered his warmest congratulations to Elaine Robertson from Keith on winning the 2015 John Miskelly Memorial Award, at the National Farmers Union of Scotland (NFUS) AGM this week, for her contribution to the NFUS and Scottish Agriculture.

Elaine, who is Secretary of the Banffshire Branch and an Agent based in the Keith office, joined the NFUS in 1987.  Elaine is the second winner from Moray, following on from Jo Durno of Glenlivet receiving the award in 2009, highlighting the importance of agriculture to the area.

The award was established in memory of John Miskelly, who served as Regional Manager with the Union and vigorously supported numerous local causes.  It was given generously by John’s family following his death in 2006, and recognises those within the Union who have put enormous time and effort into promoting its work.

Mr Lochhead attended the NFUS AGM in his capacity as Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, and was able to tell the audience after his speech how delighted he was that Elaine had won and was the second constituent who had picked up the award.

Congratulating Elaine, Mr Lochhead said:

“Elaine has dedicated many years to the NFUS and I’m absolutely delighted that she won the 2015 Miskelly Award.

“I’ve known Elaine for a number of years now and I’ve seen first hand how hard she works, always going above and beyond, and I’m really pleased to see her efforts recognised by the NFUS.

“Agriculture is a hugely important sector locally, and it’s fantastic that this award has found its way back to Moray following on from Jo Durno’s win in 2009.  I really can’t think of a more deserving recipient for this year’s award than Elaine.”
