MORAY MP TOPS LEAGUE TABLE OF PARLIAMENTARY QUESTIONS

01/07/2015

HOUSE OF COMMONS STATS ILLUSTRATE HARD WORK OF ANGUS ROBERTSON

As the Westminster parliament comes to the end of its 2010-15 term, official statistics show that Moray MP Angus Robertson is amongst the hardest working MP’s in the House of Commons.

According to details from the House of Commons Library he ranks number one amongst Scottish MPs in terms of written Parliamentary questions to the UK Government for the current parliamentary term (2010-15) and also ranks 10th out of all the 659 MPs in the House of Commons.

The Moray MP, who leads the SNP at Westminster regularly questions the Prime Minister and is rated above most other MPs for participation in Westminster debates.

He was nominated twice during this parliamentary term as the ‘Best Scot at Westminster’, winning the accolade in 2011.

With 1,813 written questions submitted, Angus Robertson is well above all the Scottish Labour MPs, including members of the Shadow Cabinet like Douglas Alexander (724), Margaret Currant (459) or the former Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Pary, Anas Sarwar (305).

The 6 SNP MPs have tabled an average of 770 written questions each while the 40 Scottish Labour MPs would have just tabled an average of 419 each.

Moray MP Angus Robertson said:

“Scrutinising the UK Government and standing up for the interests of their constituents is the most important task for an MP. Westminster is still where key powers affecting both Moray and Scotland lie.

“There have been many issues profoundly impacting people in Moray, including austerity cuts and the threat to the bases at Lossiemouth and Kinloss.

“I am proud to see that 6 SNP MPs have an average of 80% more questions per Member than the 40 Scottish Labour Party Members. We are working hard to defend the rights of Scotland and those of our constituents.”

Moray MSP Richard Lochhead said:

“Angus has demonstrated, once again, to be an exceptional representative of the people of Moray and Scotland. These House of Commons figures show how hard Angus and the other 5 SNP MPs have been working.

“He has been repeatedly nominated as the ‘Best Scot at Westminster’ and we are very lucky to have him as our MP.”
